Preparing Skin For Treatment
Skin preparation is an essential step, alongside treatments that we offer or that you partake in elsewhere. Preparation ensures that you can achieve safe, beneficial and optimal results.
General Skin Preparation
Due to skin treatments relying on individual susceptibilities, an increase in health will improve the outcome. In other words, better skin preparation will yield better results. Please read our advice on the factors that influence skin health.
- Try using our Tone and Defence Formula Skin Oil – clients who nourish their skin before treatment have seen and felt a difference.
- A weekly honey facial, a few months before the contemplation of treatment, will increase skin health.
- Be careful with your oral or topical drug use – if in doubt, email us.
- Do not use scrubs or harshly treat the skin – see out tips on avoiding skin sensitivity.
Skin preparation before laser treatments
Individuals should avoid tanning and must not use fake tan 6 weeks prior to or during the treatment period.
This is to avoid excessive discomfort from light absorption in the skin.
Immediately after treatment, the skin is particularly sensitive to UV light, and you shouldn’t suffer exposure to strong sunlight for 1-2 weeks.
The application of a protective barrier is essential.
If you are going on holiday to somewhere hot in the near future, make sure you plan treatment around travel arrangements.
Don’t carry out another skin treatment on the area, at least a week prior.
Be honest with your skin therapist about your health.
Please tell your therapist of any concerns regarding the treatment area.
What to expect prior to light treatment
For Pure White Light IPL/Laser Treatments, most patients experience the sensation as moderate and acceptable. They liken the feeling to a rubber band being fired against the skin. Pain level is variable depending on the individual. Individuals have commented it “is like a mild electric shock or a slight pinprick depending on the area and his/her sensitivity levels“.
Therefore it is always best to be relaxed, rested and has eaten regularly prior to treatments. Clients who are menstruating at the time of treatment can also suffer more discomfort than they would otherwise.
Skin Treatment Contraindications
Clients who are ill/taking medication that contradicts the treatment will not be treated at our Manchester Clinic. If you have queries prior to your appointment, please call the office as soon as possible and discuss the matter with a member of our team.
If you have any questions or queries, please do not hesitate to contact us.
